During the pandemic, most of our discussions centered around
Desert Culture, Art, Handicrafts, Literature, Tourism, and Music, among other
topics. We soon realized that our home district of Barmer had not yet reached
its full potential regarding artisan-based handicraft industries. Our Folk
musical communities remain unrecognized and disconnected from mainstream
society, while our regional author's books and written material are not readily
accessible. Thus, we decided to utilize our leisure time to create something
meaningful - a platform where people can read books by Barmer authors,
participate in dialogue for Barmer's development, buy and sell Barmer's artisan
handmade products, and purchase handpicked organic dry vegetables that are not
easily available in the market at a fair price. It will be like a one-stop
center to showcase the different colors of Barmer and its Desert Culture.
The platform is expected to bring innovation in designing
and skill promotion among artisans and aims to establish the much-needed
connectivity among the artisans, exporters, manufacturers, and buyers for
better trade linkages, enhanced capacity, improved incomes, and inclusive
development of the district. The team of NAVODAYA Alumni is jointly nurturing
the Barmer Bazaar.
Jai Hind and Jai Navodaya!
